As I said in my own journal, they thought the reaction was big to Sam being made a regular cast member announcement? HA. They ain't seen nothin' yet.
I'm expecting a third of the fandom to say "ARE THEY ON CRACK?!", another third (the spiteful ones) to say "YAY IT'S NOT SAM" and the remaining third to be pretty "Eh. Whatever." But I could be reading it wrong. LOL
Myself, I'm not thrilled with the choice though I could see it coming...
I'm actually intrigued. I've always liked Woolsey - he's a bit of a ninny, but not more of one than I would be in his situation.
Also - John has this rep of being a bad subordinate, but we've never really seen him be one except in "Hot Zone." It will be interesting to see how he handles life under Woolsey, who has never, ever had "St." as a prefix in anyone's vocabulary.
Not thrilled with the choice at all. I was wary of having Sam in charge but it worked out really well but I can't stand Woolsey. He has never appealed to me and surprisingly, many fans are okay with this. If Amanda is still guest starring why does he have to be in charge of Atlantis?
Okay, lemme preface by saying I am very sorry that you happened to be the wrong person at the wrong time but:
I don't care that you're being facetious. I get it. I do. But if you're going to talk about spoilers, can you please cut tag?
I'm ready to run around and stab everybody because you know what? Not everyone likes spoilers and the fact that I have to avoid them for ten months is difficult enough without posts like this (unintentionally!) rubbing it in my face.
And yes, I am really quite sorry that it happens to be you that's making me flip my lid, but I'm not kidding: please cut tag. Jokes like that are not funny.
I would like to add that it most likely work out if the writers give him good material because he is a good actor. It's more up to the writers right now if they can make Wooley a good fit for SGA.
Oh, I have no idea how they're going to make it work, and I am not decided whether or not I like the choice, but I admit I will be amused by watching fandom wail and screech.
Then, I'm sorry, I don't get why you're blowing up at me for posting a spoiler. I didn't. Intentionally. Because I know I have people on my flist who don't like spoilers. I wonder, are you asking me to not post my opinion in my own journal because it's not popular/ because it only amuses me / it offends you? Or am I misreading you? I wasn't trying to rub salt in the wound, I'm just remembering the way fandom reacted to Sam, and now with this, I expect even more of a blow-up, and, yes, it does amuse me. I'm not sure about the spoiler yet, no sure whether or not I like it, but watching people does amuse me. In a non-mean way.
I was asking that if you're going to talk about it, at all, to put it behind a cut tag. Like just about everyone else is doing. Except for the few people who aren't, and those are the people who are making me angry.
It goes. Behind. A. Cut-tag. All of it.
Yes, I did get why you were posting it, and that it was a dig against people who thought sam was a bad choice. Really, truly, I did. It was even funny.
I also don't care. Because I don't want to know even a little bit and honestly? You're making that even harder.
I'm not decided yet how I feel about it, but I love people-watching, so watching the various reactions to it - from good to shocked to outraged - they're certainly fascinating.
And, you know what? You're right -- you didn't post any visible spoilers (which, seriously, I do appreciate that a lot). And you shouldn't have to more than that.
You know that chunk of story I sent you last night? I called it. It's actually logical within canon and I think it could be a good thing for the show. We're talking about someone who has an intersting character that's already established in canon, good acting skills, and the potential for intersting conflict with the Atlantis crew. It's all good. I'd expect a better quality of integration than we've had with Sam, in fact.
I'm probably in the minority, but I'm looking forward to Picardo joining the cast. John mostly got along with Elizabeth and Sam -- it will be interesting to see him deal with Woolsey and his by-the-book management style. I have this image of of Woolsey bringing the annual budget to staff meetings and trying to make all the departments curtial their spending.
I adore Robert Picardo. As I said above, I haven't yet decided how I feel about the cast addition, I think it can be both good and bad. I'm hoping it won't turn into slapstick but into actual, genuine conflict that'll make the characters grow without turning anyone into an idiot.
I've read the casting spoilers, and I don't know what to think. I like Robert Picardo. A lot. I even kind of like Woolsey. But as commander? Hmmmmm.
Last year, I was worried when I heard that Amanda Tapping was joining the cast. You know, more bumbling McKay blah blah less Lorne and Zelenka blah blah blah. And I was worried for nothing. I'm taking the wait and see approach this time around.
I think it'll be fun to watch the possible insubordination and Team vs. Commander type stuff that might ensue. But then I am a very anti-authority type of person. *g*
I was quite pleased with Sam, but I understand that AT would want to move on. *shrug*
*happy Snoopy dance* I can SO see Woolsey being appointed! And there's a few obvious ways the writers can go with this. Well, when the strike's over, that is. ;) I just hope they're able to continue to balance the silly with the darkly dramatic. Because Richard Woolsey's only gotten a taste of just how grim things in Atlantis can get, as well as what lengths the residents there will go to to protect their own. I wonder if Woolsey will have his own Arcturus Project where he's in Rodney's place? Oooo, that could be frellin' awesome. Pass the popcorn, please! -----}-@
You don't know me...just one of the hundreds of faceless readers who enjoy your amazing fiction. Let me also give credit here to your oft-collaborator auburnnothenna. I'm thrilled to know that you like Robert Picardo and feel that this new combination with Woolsey has the potential for good watching. I'm also hoping that you'll feel it has the potential for good writing and, for me, good reading. Cheers!
ETA: I haven't had much quality time with LJ lately, so scrolling through your journal, I see I have a little reading to catch up on...
