I cannot begin to tell how actively, unbelievably, mind-numbingly sick this makes me.

Funny. When I read the bible, it doesn't say: Hate your neighbour, for God will love you for spreading the hate and causing grief and shining a bad light on faith.

How? How does this happen? How can they honestly believe in what they're saying? How can anyone misinterpret the commandments this way? How?

I still believe that God made us exactly the way he wanted to, or he wouldn't have done it. So, gay or hetero? Why does anybody even care?

And, please, just one statement, here: Not all people of Christian faith are as bugfuck crazy as them. In fact, we're a pretty nice bunch. I hate the fact that once again, they make it easy for everyone to look at Christians and say: Typical. It's what they always do.
It's really, really not. As a small example, our pastor, a woman, gave her blessings to the marriage of my choir conductor to his husband last year. In a service, just like she would have done for a heterosexual wedding. And the church was full of people.
So, really. No. We're really, really not all insane.

If it's any consolation, the WBC is widely considered to be insane extremists even by the standards of US fundamentalists. I can't imagine anyone confusing you for people like them. If they can even be considered "people".

Those people obviously never grew up and are perpetually stuck in the "I R RITE AND U R WRONG!" mindset, thinking they are in possession of the one and only truth. Its THEIR bugfuck crazy interpretation of the bible, and nothing else.

At least that's what I am telling myself over and over, because otherwise I would be severely tempted to kill them all for inflicting the stupid onto a helpless society. *grargh*

I think the WBC are already considered so far off the deep end that no one pays them any mind. They're best known for picketing soldiers' funerals -- some twisted chain of logic has led them to "any soldier who fights on behalf of the U.S. is supporting godless sinnery and is going to hell" -- despite the fact that soldiers and their families are some of the most politically conservative people you're likely to meet. This, needless to say, has ensured that everyone all along the political spectrum hates them ... if you want to alienate people, there's nothing quite like picketing the funeral of a soldier who died in combat.

Picketing the funeral of a man who once played a gay character in a movie is utterly nuts, but it's not by any means the craziest thing they've done. They're hateful batshit-crazy fucks, but I don't think they really have any supporters at all; the entire "church" is basically composed of one (batshit-crazy) family anyway.
