So, took a break from the daily hospital-visit routine and went to the cinema. Hence, here's a quick reaction to
Am I the only one who's a bit underwhelmed by it?
It feels like the big emotional impacts were completely missing, I had expected to be sobbing mess and I didn't even shed a single tear. For the fact that they had so much time to do fairly little plot-wise, they surely could have done that better.
I admit, I'm also miffed because my favourite scene "Guys, is this the time?" was missing. That's childish, yes, but I'd been looking forward to it. Though the kiss they did give us was satisfying, too. No doubt about that.
Also? Why, why, WHY did they have to include the 19 years later crap? I know it was in the book, but ack! I already wanted to rip those pages from the book. The way they aged them kind of scarred me for life. When they showed Draco, I literally went "Jesus Christ, oh my God." and NOT in a good way. (The people in front of me kind of sniggered at my reaction. I wonder why.) The others just kind of made me shudder. And Ron with his paunch! Shudder, shudder, shudder. I really could have done without that.
So, you know, certainly not a bad movie, but I hadn't read the book again on purpose because I was afraid that I'd be disappointed because they left out a lot I remembered ... but this way, I barely remembered the book and there was still a lot missing. It seems as though they did the emotional arch in the first movie and forgot about it in the second.
I would love to hear from those of you who think otherwise. Maybe I just had a bad day.
Oh, definitely a bonus: Helena Bonham Carter as Hermione playing Bellatrix. Good heavens. Marvellous.
Rupert Grint in the Gringotts disguise was ... really nice. He could have kept these clothes a while longer.
(Hands up who kind of snorted at the gratuitous show of skin after the jump in the lake? Heeeeeeeh!)
Neville was badass, though, did I miss it or not remember it that we didn't really see a lot from the resistance movement inside of Hogwarts?
Snape was brilliant start to finish. Those memories really did have the impact I had hoped for.
Aberforth was cool.
McGonagall! Oh, Minerva, lovely Minerva.
Neville! Oh, babycakes, how so tall and awesome?
In hindsight, maybe I really do need to see it a second time and expect less. I guess it will be more satisfying then (which, you know, it was, it really was. It was epic and dark and beautifully filmed. In a way, I guess I just expected different priorities.). And I can always look away during the 19 years later stuff. :o)
