SGA 2x17 - Coup d'etat

I have so much love for this episode. Minor grumps, too, but overall, So. Much. Love.

The minor grump? Was right in the beginning: No one seemed overly shocked that Lorne was supposedly dead. Does that mean they called it from the beginning that it wasn't really him, or do they just not care? I hate to think it's reason two. You can't not love Lorne. Even with his very stupid new hair.

- Is there any chance that TPTB are reading fan reviews? Because I swear, McKay's shirts get tighter and shorter around the sleeves every week. Guh.

- Also: "We might even get the city to fly" "Really?" Oh, Rodney so knows how to lay out bait for John. It's most endearing. (Come to think of it, why has no one written a story about that yet? I don't remember a single story in which Atlantis was actually used as a spaceship. Why not?)

- wee Genii guy? In the screencap on the monitor? The way he looks at the ZPM ... er, let's just say if you put some suggestive sounds to it, it would have to be rated R. :o)

- Teyla's shirt was all kinds of pretty.

- Ronon with his arm over the barkeeper, doing the menacing thing. Aiiiii. I heart Ronon. So much.

- whoever was in charge of the lighting in this episode loved Joe Flanigan. So many beautiful shots.

- "That's Lieutenant Colonel Errand Boy to you" Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.

- Continuity. And I don't mean the jumpers, but the recurring characters, and Mensa, and radiation poisoning, and someone remembering that, hey, maybe it would have been a good idea to actually TELL the Genii about how their weapon worked. Wasn't that the deal back in Siege II?

- That shot of the Gate in action? Was a thing of beauty.

- There needs to be an ode to John Sheppard's neck. Really. The director of photography must be a little in love with JF.

- Rodney's: "Could be booby-trapped to blow up in your face!" Is very endearing, because, well, a) for the obvious reason that he's really worried about John, and b) for the Argh, not the pretty face! kind of reason. And notice how John doesn't even roll his eyes? Oh, yeah.

- And I know that this probably makes me not very bright, but I really didn't see it coming that this would be a double-play in the end. Of course, it all went far too smoothly to not have something go drastically wrong, but still. I thought that was it after Cowen showed up.

- The sister is going to die, right? And wee insurrection-man will lose it.

- We all know that nothing ever happens to the hero, especially not in season two, but I was scared for Shep there. And I loved the responses in the control room. Elizabeth's despair at the prospect of losing both Sheppard and McKay, Carson's "just do it" approach and Ronon's realistic deduction of the situation. And he'd have been right, if it had played out that way.

- Lorne. "Let me know when you need our help". There needs to be more Lorne fic. There needs to be more Lorne on the show.

- Rodney on the Genii homeworld: "They didn't even try to kill us once". And the wonderful, completely uneasy way in which the whole scene was played out.
(Speaking of the scene ... I love how Rodney keeps looking to Sheppard for some sort of guidance or clue how to behave. (I'll not go into the lingering quality of those looks. Nuh-uh. Even though it's definitely there. Completely with lowered eyelashes.))

- Cowen. I'm sort of sad to see the mad bastard go. How many bets that Kolya will come up again?

- Rodney on the strike-force. Okay, the ultimate question was: Why? But then, look at those glasses. Look at the posture. Look at him and Sheppard. There really doesn't have to be any more explanation than that. Really, none. *fans self*

- Sheppards neck when he's being "interrogated" by Cowen.

- Cowen not getting that killing Sheppard is not the way to get to Sheppard. If he'd sat there and put a gun to any one of Sheppard's team, he'd have given him anything. And I really do think everything.

- John and Rodney in the cell. Love. So much love.

- The shoulder-tapping. That had something strangely touching to it. (No pun intended)

- Carson. Good god, I like him again. I really, really do.

- Elizabeth's clothing. She looked good, damn it.

- The plot. Lord above, we had a PLOT. One that wasn't completely stupid.

- And, of course, the mind-boggling question: What do the Genii want with the ATA gene? Take over Atlantis again, or have they found something bigger, something along the lines of the destructive power of Arcturus?

I'll probably add more upon further viewings, but for now, I'm just giddily happy.

*squeezes eyes shut*

*whimpers*

Sooo want to see Long Goodbye and Coup d'Etat -- err, did you send me any goodies of that kind? If not, no problem, I'll know and search for an internet café with dl/burn options again. Maybe the third time's the charm and I do get a file that plays correctly...

Squee! This one really was good, wasn't it?

I totally agree with everything you said. It was an especially pretty ep as well. I swooned a bit over the shot of the stargate. And Sheppard's eyebrow thing - when Rodney was saying that there's a tango in the centre of the room. Damn that was awesome.

*fans self*

My only complaint? Elizabeth seriously needs to start wearing less eyeliner. I'm starting to think she's evil or something *smirk*.

I just read a seriously great Lorne fic over at sga_flasfic. The care and feeding of a CO - I can find the link if you'd like. I have so much love for Lorne right now.

Actually, so much love for all of it.

Looks like the final sprint before the end - remembering the last season, those final episodes were excellent, too.

They seemed to remember in this episode that they have an absolutely gorgeous cast, and they showcased every one of them. Although, what is it with Lorne's hair? I liked the kind of sort of ashblond colour he had.

Despite the eyeliner, Elizabeth was very pretty in this episode, too. I loved that cardigan - maybe because it hid her terribly thin arms so well.

And, yes "Care and feeding". I started it when I was at Kat's and never finished it because our own writig came up, but I loved what I read, so I really have to go and print it at some point.

And, of course, the mind-boggling question: What do the Genii want with the ATA gene?

Actually, I didn't see that they were the ones circulating the pictures. Mr.Science-Brother-Coup was all "huh?" about flying the jumpers, and there was no "I'm gonna kill Shep and use the men to fly for us!" gloating from any of the Genii.

I suspect Kolya's behind it (because of *course* he's not dead), but that's a wild guess. I suppose Ford could have something to do with it, too. ::ponder::
