When Sherlock asks Mycroft in "The Empty Hearse" how he would know if he were lonely, it's even more poignant when you realise, particularly after this episode, that Sherlock does know.
Mycroft might be alone, but Sherlock, who has known, and now, from his POV, lost John, is now utterly lonely. And that damn well hurts to even think about.

And, oh, God, I really need to go to bed, my alarm clock rings in four hours ...
